Carol LoCicero honored as Lightning Community Hero
Already well known as a skilled lawyer and champion of First Amendment rights and open government, Carol LoCicero now has another honor: community hero.
The National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning praised Carol as a “Lightning Community Hero” for her work with End 68 Hours of Hunger. The charity’s name refers to the time between lunch on Friday and breakfast on Monday. Many children who receive meals at school on weekdays go hungry during those 68 hours. Carol coordinates deliveries of food to Tampa schools on Fridays for children in need to take home to their families. The organization provided more than 40,000 meals in the last school year.
Recognizing Carol’s efforts, the Lightning are making a $50,000 grant to End 68 Hours of Hunger in her honor, and the team presented a Lightning jersey to Carol during a game on January 11. The jersey number, of course, is 68.
“We’ve admired Carol’s devotion to helping others for as long as we’ve known her,” said Gregg Thomas, one of Carol’s law partners. “We’re thrilled that the Lightning are helping a charity that means so much to Carol and to needy families.”
The Lightning Community Hero program celebrates people and organizations making a difference in the Tampa area. The program has awarded more than $14.75 million in grants since 2011.
