Investigative Reporters & Editors Conference Features Carol LoCicero

Libel and invasion of privacy is highlighted by founding partner.

Carol Jean LoCicero, one of the founding partners of Thomas & LoCicero, served as a speaker today at the Investigative Reporters & Editors 2018 Conference in Orlando.  Ms. LoCicero co-presented in a three-hour program sponsored by Knight Foundation addressing “Legal Workshop: Understanding Libel and Copyright.” 

During her segment of the workshop, Ms. LoCicero addressed the topic of libel and invasion of privacy. She discussed the legal problems which can arise from content and best practices to avoid getting sued for defamation.  She also explored the differences in defending cases brought by public and private figures, common law and constitutional defenses, privileges for opinion and using public records.
