Veteran media lawyer Karen Williams Kammer joins TLo

Thomas & LoCicero is expanding its media and communications law practice, welcoming Miami attorney Karen Williams Kammer.

“We are honored to have Karen join Thomas & LoCicero,” said Carol LoCicero, the firm’s president. “Karen is a leading Florida media attorney with marquee clients and a deep belief in the importance of journalism.  Adding Karen to the team continues to deepen and broaden our standing as Florida’s leading media law firm.”

Kammer has represented journalists for decades, defending them in libel and privacy litigation and protecting their right of access to court proceedings and records. She has represented the media in high-profile criminal cases, including the prosecutions of Carmen and Jorge Baharona, Manuel Noriega and William Kennedy Smith, among many others. Kammer also has litigated public records matters in the Florida Supreme Court.

In addition to her media work, Kammer handles other civil litigation matters and often serves as an attorney’s fee expert.

Kammer is a frequent speaker on media law issues and a former chair of the Florida Bar Media & Communications Law Committee. She also is a participant in the Women of Tomorrow Mentoring and Scholarship Program.

Before attending law school, Kammer worked for television and radio stations in Chicago. She has a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University and a law degree from the University of Chicago. She also is a former figure skater.
